Black Dog Series

Black Dog recipes are those that require only a small bit of cooking and that soothe the soul.

These forgiving meals are for the days where you cannot face spending hours in the kitchen, do not want another packet on instant noodles, and achingly need a hug in food form.

These recipes are flexible to your fridge and are not precious on requiring the exact brand of ‘free-range organic pomegranate molasses’ sourced from the Himalayas only during a monsoon – you can substitute similar ingredients and the dishes will be just as delicious.

The Brownie

An intense chocolate explosion. This brownie sits at that irresistible crossroads of being both deeply rich in chocolate yet possessing a light texture that removes it from the area of becoming cloying, as some of the more dense brownie varieties fall into.

Kada Prasad

Soft, sweet and full of butter. Made by Indian mothers when their child is feeling poorly, the nutty brown butter lingering around the edges of the bowl, lips and throat will sooth all coughs, colds and ailments.

Toad in the Hole

Light crispy batter and juicy sausages drowned in a deeply rich and tangy onion gravy. There’s little else more satisfying when all you want to do is fill your heart with gravy.
